Judi Smith Day

These pictures say it all!
Judi Smith Day is one of Beeman’s most favorite traditions filled with skating, running around, drinking hot cocoa and adults and children having a great time together.
For anyone new to Beeman, Judi Smith was a teacher here over 20 years ago who began a tradition with her class to go to Middlebury College and skate on the last day of school before winter break.  Sadly, Judi passed away, but her husband, who works at the college, made sure to continue the connection between Beeman and Middlebury College by inviting us all to come every year and use the amazing facilities.  This has always been a very special day for those who knew Judi and has become a special day for all of us who did not.
We are so grateful.  Wishing everyone a restful and fun winter break!

Hour of Code

Last week, every student at Beeman learned about coding and completed programming tasks.  The Hour of Code takes place each year during Computer Science Education Week. The 2017 Computer Science Education Week was December 4-10, 2017.

  • Ms. Christie’s class used Kodable to guide Fuzz through a maze.
  • Ms. Davison’s class and the Share class used Daisy the Dinosaur and Tynker to program characters to complete different tasks.
  • Mr. Flood’s class used Tynker and The Foos to program characters to find a treasure and have snowball fights.
  • Ms. Van De Weert’s class and Mrs. Carter’s class learned to write code on the iPads with Swift Playground (this app is FREE on newer iPads).  They also used Tynker (Puppy Adventure) to learn about commands and looping.

Art Service Learning Project for Puerto Rico

It’s “Full Steam Ahead!” with the Art Service Learning Project for Puerto Rico. The 5/6 students continue to bedazzle repurposed desks and chairs with beautiful cultural themed art. The furniture will eventually be sold in a silent online auction and students will choose the charitable path when proceeds are sent to aid relief efforts. Enjoy the photos of the furniture in progress!
